The Social Enterprise Fund invests in social enterprises and social entrepreneurs, providing the patient and imaginative capital they need to successfully accomplish important public benefit mission.

In its first decade, SEF has provided loans across Alberta in a variety of sectors, including social challenges, the environment, food security, affordable housing and culture.  Our investors include the Edmonton Community Foundation, the City of Edmonton and the United Way.  In addition to financial returns, it is important to capture and understand the mission outcomes of our investments.

The Position

The Outcomes Associate will be the primary point person to collect portfolio management information about SEF’s clients including mission outcomes and financial reporting from those clients.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the role will include direct work with past, current and new clients to build and maintain SEF’s database on performance across SEF’s investments, playing a central role in communicating these outcomes to our investors and the community at large.

The Outcomes Associate will ensure all clients are current with all reporting obligations in their financial and security agreements, such as mission and outcomes reporting, financial reporting, insurance and security assets reporting.  This work will include direct and regular interaction with all loan clients, and requires the Outcomes Associate to design and implement approved methods of collecting and presenting information for eventual use by investors and community partners in analysing SEF’s performance both in terms of mission and financial outcomes. The Outcomes Associate will  also bring information and recommendations to the Executive Director when a loan client is, or appears to be,  unable for whatever reason to deliver their public benefit mission or to meet their loan obligations to SEF.

Key Responsibilities

 Work with clients to develop individualized measurement and reporting plans at the time of loan closing, developing the targeted outcomes to be tracked during and after the term of the investment, as well as the method and schedule for data collection.

Supports the accountability and outcomes reporting obligations of clients by         ensuring timely collection of all materials required through Financing and             Security agreements.

Provides early stage portfolio management information and analysis,                       communicating effectively and proactively with the Executive Director as to the   developing needs of existing clients

Create and implement outcomes measurement and reporting plans for existing    SEF clients. Gather outcomes information from all past SEF loan clients.

Report on impact outcomes across sectors and types, determining  and                   executing the appropriate format, depending on audience and communication       needs.

Analyze, summarize and convey clustered outcomes and learning for internal         and external stakeholders.

On request, supports Executive Director in representing SEF in the community,   including participation in public speaking opportunities at post-secondary             institutions, conferences, community group  and client events

Engage in learning and professional development activities that add value to          this position’s work and to the overall goals of SEF.

 

Education/ Experience

Three to five years of hands-on management experience in for-profit or non-profit enterprises.  Experience in gathering, analyzing and presenting information in a variety of formats critical.  Working with boards of all types an asset.  A University degree at the undergraduate level or equivalent experience.

Position Requirements

  1. Education and Experience
  • Minimum 3 to 5 year’s experience in information gathering, presentation and analysis fields
  • Statistics experience a bonus
  1. English language communication skills
  • Fluency in oral and written English is required
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to conduct basic analysis of budgets and financial statements
