SROI Edmonton is a  network  of practitioners from United Way of the Alberta Capital Region, City of Edmonton, Edmonton Social Planning Council, Prostitution Awareness & Action Foundation of Edmonton (PAAFE), and the Social Enterprise Fund.

Through the development of a  financial proxies database and the provision of training workshops, SROI Edmonton aims to standardize SROI practice within the greater Edmonton area.  Specifically, SROI Edmonton strives:

  • to promote the appropriate use of a consistent SROI methodolgy
  • to develop capacity within Edmonton in SROI methodology, and
  • to build a community of practitioners that shares knowledge, information and expertise with each other.

What is SROI:

SROI is a framework for measuring and accounting for social value, which may take the form of cost reallocations, cost savings,  increased income and/or individual/community change.  SROI is expressed as a ratio of impact/input.  SROI is both  an  evaluative and a forecasting tool.  As an evaluation tool, SROI tells the story of social impact.  As a forecasting tool, it projects social value targets  leading  organizations to develop information systems to support the measurement of social value.  In both cases, SROI applies the following principles:

  • Involve Stakeholders
  • Understand the Changes (Expected and Unanticipated)
  • Value what Matters
  • Materiality
  • Do not over-claim
  • Transparency
  • Verify the Result
