What is SROI:
SROI is a framework for measuring and accounting for social value, which may take the form of cost reallocations, cost savings, increased income and/or individual/community change. SROI is expressed as a ratio of impact/input. SROI is both an evaluative and a forecasting tool. As an evaluation tool, SROI tells the story of social impact. As a forecasting tool, it projects social value targets leading organizations to develop information systems to support the measurement of social value. In both cases, SROI applies the following principles:
- Involve Stakeholders
- Understand the Changes (Expected and Unanticipated)
- Value what Matters
- Materiality
- Do not over-claim
- Transparency
- Verify the Result
